Our Baby Story - Part 7 - Family, Prayer, Thanks

So during this time, God was working on the hearts of those praying for me.

One person was my mother in law.  She has been praying for us to have a child for years.  The friend of mine that got the verse last fall, the Luke 1:14 one, saw my in-law at church on April 13th.  As soon as she saw them, God told her to talk to them about praying in thanks, as the healing rooms had taught us to do.  My friend was nervous, and wanted to make sure she was hearing God’s nudging right, so she told Him that if He really wanted her to talk to my in-laws about it, that God would bring them to the potluck after church.  She knew they were planning on not going.

Well, she comes into the potluck, and the first people she sees are my in-laws. :)  So she sits down and talks with my mother in law, and shares how God is telling her to tell my mother in law about thanking God before the promise if fulfilled.  My mother in law, like me, and many others, had been taught to bring a request before God, and to pray for it until it happened, give an honest heart filled thanks, and then pray for the next concern.  That is how I had learned it too.  It was such a blessing to her, and something she thought over for weeks afterwards about giving thanks to God while praying for something.  We had a few talks about it afterwards, and it was really beautiful to see how God was blessing her walk with Him through this new way of prayer.

God was also working on my sister’s heart.  She had been worried about me and the nursery.  She was so worried I would be hurt.  She worried the room wasn’t for us, that if we had heard from God, that maybe it was us gathering things for someone else to have when they got pregnant.  But one day, God challenged her to pray for us, not just in fear of us being hurt, but to change that to believing God could come through.  God asked her to start praying that if He did indeed have a child for us, that He would bring that child to us.

During this time we also showed the nursery to both sets of parents.  We showed it first to my in-laws.  They were coming to visit, and when you have a whole room dedicated as a nursery in a two bedroom apartment, you can’t very well pack it up and hide it! :)  My mother in law was so happy.  I felt kind of silly letting her see it.  Her daughter was already pregnant, and here we were, not pregnant, and already had a whole room put together.  We shared how God kept reaffirming to us that we needed to believe, and we needed to be getting ready.  She has had cloth for us for a while now to make cloth diapers.  I admitted it would be wonderful to put those together sometime as I really felt the time was drawing close.

Then my parents came for a visit.  They go to the states often, so I found a couple of toys I felt we were supposed to get for really cheap there, and asked if they could pick them up.  My mom asked who they were for just before they brought them to us.  It was hard, but I broke down and admitted to them too what God had been asking of us.

On May 15th they came for a visit.  Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Mom go into the baby room and come out a minute later.  I prayed that my parents would understand and not think us too crazy.

As of the day my parents came to visit, this is what our nursery looked like.  The bassinet is still there, it's just inside the crib.  (Doyle in all his glory.  I think he thought the room was for him. lol)
